Evelyn Moser studied political sciences and economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz including stays abroad at the State University of St. Petersburg and the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). In her dissertation at the sociological department of the University of Lucerne, she focused, from a theoretical perspective of differentiation and world society, on political and economic transformation processes in rural Russia. Her research interests range from the sociology of political regimes, the theory construction and reflection in the area of post-Soviet transformation to the sociology of the market and the coupling and interaction of economic and political structures. Her current research projects investigate the interplay between democracy and functional differentiation of modern world society, emerging forms of political repression in modern autocracies, and the role of philanthropic foundations in democratic contexts.
