Dr. Hanno Kruse was appointed junior professor (W1 with tenure track to W2) for sociology at the FIW with a focus on social inequality. He has been leading the Emmy Noether junior research group "Sorting and peer processes in schools (SPINS)" for two years. SPINS investigates how schools can best ensure social exchange and cohesion in increasingly diverse societies. School management and local teachers are making great efforts to achieve these goals. One important tool in this is their decisions about class divisions at the start of school.
