Global Solutions for Sustainable Development

Lecture Series with Members of the Scientific Advisory Board of the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Bonn

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the foundation of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) in 2013. It comprises 26 renowned international scientists from various fields of natural, engineering, and social sciences and the humanities, as well as the interdisciplinary subjects of oceanology, climate change and biodiversity research. The SAB advises both the UN Secretary-General and the executive heads of UN organizations on matters involving science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development. Particular focus is placed on the interfaces between science, research and practice.

Between April and July, six distinguished members of the SAB, whose respective research fields are also represented in Bonn’s international scientific and academic landscape, will report on their current research and discuss recent developments with a professional audience and the interested public at the University of Bonn. Our first guest from the SAB will be Prof. Dr. Jörg Hinrich Hacker, President of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, who will give his lecture on April 13th (6.15 pm, Bonner Universitätsforum). The lecture series will be opened by Prof. Dr. Michael Hoch, Rector of the University of Bonn, and Dorothee Dzwonnek, Secretary General of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft.

In cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO, the lecture series is organized by the Liaison Office International Academic Sciences (City of Bonn) and the Department for Strategic Partnerships of the Forum Internationale Wissenschaft (University of Bonn).
