The three megatrends urbanisation, climate change and digital change constantly influence each other, especially in huge cities. We welcomed Prof. Michael Batty from the Centre for Spatial Analysis (University College London) and around 100 guests to discuss the current developments

In his lecture, Professor Michael Batty stated that it is very likely that by 2140, pretty much everybody will live in cities. Thus, urbanisation and urban planning will become an even more important issue within the upcoming decades. Cities will have to adapt to many different aspects like the growing number of inhabitants, new challenges of public transportation and housing. On top of that, climate change will also be a very tough topic for many cities. A sea level rise by 10 meters in London would, for instance, mean that most of its inner center would be flooded. Scientists and experts with various professions and perspectives are thus currently working on solutions for these problematic developments. The progress of the digital technologies also play a major role for this process. Cooperations are facilitated, important data can easily be shared and adjusted to different purposes and huge networks can be created to find the best possible solutions for any challenges.
