 nge has affected higher education systems. In Mozambique\, universities ha
 ve been responding to changing climate demands in various ways. Actions to
 wards addressing climate change-related events include introduction of cou
 rses and curriculum reforms\, emerging researchers and research groups\, r
 ising outreach and community engagement programs and new governing structu
 res. However\, university’s response to events related to climate change
  is often erratic. This lecture examines the university and climate change
  understanding in Mozambique. It maps the presence or absence of climate c
 hange issues in the university institutional fabric and scrutinises the kn
 owledge base and institutional infrastructure on which climate change acti
 ons are engaged. The paper rethinks the main university functions during e
 xtreme climate change events.
